When warlord Mohmar 'Deathstrike' first created the Global Liberation Army, all he had at his disposal was a relatively small group of armed fundementalists. While they had been in many battles before and were somewhat professional, Mohmar knew he couldn't achieve his goals with only a small group of 100-ish soldiers. So, during the two-years time between 2017 and 2019, he set out through Kazakhstan, Aldastan and pretty much all of Central Asia to spread the word, that a new liberator has arrived and they needed their help. The impoverished farmers, workers, tribesmen, homeless and workless believed his speeches of purity, and so they joined his ranks. When the GLA made their first move by nuking downtown Beijing in 2019, Mohmar had a whole army of followers with hundreds of thousands armed rebels. Cheap, easy to train and expandable, the Rebel stands at the frontline of the Global Liberation Army, armed to the teeth with AK-47s and molotov cocktails.

Hardened by years of urban combat and guerrilla warfare, the Rebel is a surprisingly efficient infantry unit for its cost. The standard firing mode with the AK-47 provides basic support against enemy infantry and is a good way to get rid of Panzerfaust soldiers or Tank Hunters. When garrisoned they are also highly effective against light vehicles such as Humvees or Tunguskas. Rebels may also gain a camouflage ability which makes them unable to be spotted by the enemy when not firing unless stealth detectors are employed.

Additionally, Rebels may now be armed with Molotov cocktails alongside their AK-47: these perform rather poorly in open combat because they tend to miss moving targets, but are excellent when it comes to clearing troops inside garrisons and for destroying buildings. Once High Explosive Caches GP is unlocked, Rebels may also place booby traps on neutral units and buildings that go off when they are entered by unsuspecting enemy troops and Rebels explode when crushed by enemy vehicles, making them more deadly, especially when stealthed. Nonetheless, as all infantry units, Rebels are easily taken out by most anti-infantry weapons, and are especially vulnerable to gunships such as Hellions and Comanches.

In 1.86, their cost was reduced to $65, making them the second cheapest unit overall.


The Rebel reuses their original voiceset in the vanilla Generals and Zero Hour.
