The Fortification is the most basic defense structure of the ECA.

Lore[]

An hour worth of digging, a few dozen sandbags, razor wire and a plank roof combine into the ECA's most basic defensive structure. The Fortification is a makeshift emplacement that provides up to three infantrymen with a sufficient amount of cover and clear lines of fire in all directions. In order to provide additional healing support for the surrounding soldiers, a stockpile of medical equipment can be requisitioned.

It should be noted however that the structure initially lacks any sort of protection against toxins, flamethrowers, thermobarics and other dedicated anti-garrison weapons.

Upgrades[]

Each Fortification can be manually upgraded with one of four distinct add-ons, making it a highly modular defensive building.

The Medic Outpost allows nearby infantry personnel the means to recover health while retaining the ability to be garrisoned so it can provide some degree of protection.

As yet another option, Fortifications can be upgraded with field engineering equipment to become an Engineering Outpost which repairs vehicles right at the front line. It retains the ability to be garrisoned to provide some degree of protection.

Alternatively, Fortifications can have its roof removed to give enough space for a Combat Pioneer or a Grenadier, who normally cannot be garrisoned, to enter and use their mortar or grenade machine gun from within.

In order to provide infantry forces with better protection during defensive operations, Fortifications can later be reinforced. This increases their durability and renders their occupants immune to clearing hazards such as flames and toxin.

A machine gun turret can be installed on the Fortification to provide additional punch against enemy infantry and allows it to defend an area even without any infantry garrisoned inside. Do note, however, that the Machine Gun Fortification has less space for infantry due to the machine gun's addition.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Prior to 1.87 the Fortification can be upgraded to Ammunition Stockpile which boosts nearby defenses' firepower and firing rate but can no longer be garrisoned and explodes when destroyed. It was superseded by the Munitions Bunker.
