The Component Tower is a Russian defense structure which is unique as it acts as a component for three distinct base defense modules.

Lore[]

The Component Tower is about as simple as defensive structures come when first built; a heavy brick base, a couple of power linkages, and nothing on top.

The Component Tower is designed to streamline the defense of Russian bases by serving as a cheap and quick modular base for further upgrades, and can fit three separate defensive systems to this end.

Upgrades[]

The Component Tower has no real use on its own, but can be upgraded with one of three possible modules to make it an effective defense: RPG Launcher, Arena System and Tesla Coil.

Once upgraded with RPG Launcher, the Component Tower is armed with a simple but powerful defensive weapon that uses internal loaders to feed potent rocket-propelled grenades to the four launch tubes on either side. The rounds are very effective against all types of vehicles, but cannot target infantry effectively and lack the speed or targeting information necessary to engage aircraft.

With the Arena System upgrade, the Component Tower becomes a stationary version of Russia's famous Arena hard-kill defense system. The module consists of a sophisticated Doppler radar which detects incoming missiles and a battery of cassettes which destroy them with an accurate shrapnel-laden counter-charge before they reach their target.

In addition, the module has been fitted with manually triggered smoke projectors which can create a helpful diversion in the middle of an enemy assault.

Launch eight smoke grenades around the Arena Component Tower, creating a smokescreen that lasts for 3.5 seconds and make nearby enemies blindly fire at the smokescreen if they are not firing at something else. 30 seconds cooldown.

General Aleksandr is never one content with something that simply works. Unlike many Russians, who take the view of 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it', Aleksandr has never stopped improving his forces and the Tesla Coil is one of the most obvious examples. In finding a replacement for the useful but limited RPG Turret he advocated the advancement of experimental electrical weaponry based on theories first proposed by Nikola Tesla himself.

The resulting Tesla Coil generates a pulse of many millions of volts that is capable of melting armor, blowing circuits to shreds and utterly annihilating a living person. Using an advanced capacitor system, the Tesla Coil gauges the resistance of its target and dispenses exactly the amount of power needed to erase it, using powerful blasts against tanks and multiple quick, smaller blasts against any hapless foot soldiers foolish enough to approach. The Tesla Coil's utterly lethal performance against vehicular and infantry forces comes at two costs; a significant construction fee and an enormous drain on base power. However, Aleksandr has found the weapon to be well worth it.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Prior to 1.85 the Component Tower has the Air Raid System upgrade which worked similarly to the current Early Warning Outpost that replaces it.
